As we close out one year and open the next, one is tempted to relive all the good things and bad things that happened during the most recent year. At least until it becomes a chore to list and reflect. The bad things I want to forget and the good things are often hard to remember. So I am prepared to resist the temptation and simply treat these next few days as just another few days and move on.
However, it is tempting to realize that my attitude about this is cynicism, coupled with frustration, coupled with laziness and perhaps the inability to remember much anyway. So I sit here instead and realize I am very thankful to be surrounded by good friends, a loving wife, children and a grandson who express gratitude for my presence, and heaven only knows what other good fortune.
I think there is a good possibility that 2012 is going to be a good year. My New Years Resolution is to continue to attempt a positive attitude, and minimize the hysterical grumblings and occassional tirade and the throwing of golf clubs, coupled with loud shrieks and complaints about bizarre outcomes on the golf course. Yes, I know you’re tired of listening to those. On the other hand, it means giving up something I think I’m really good at.
So this post is to wish everyone who happens by a Happy New Year. Then put your head down and together, lets make 2012 a great year.
