Summer heat, afternoon storms, the July 4th weekend.

We got a note recently from a cousin who spent time in Iraq and is now living in Los Angeles. He described a family he befriended in Baghdad who subsequently moved to Europe. They have enough money to visit him in California. But they also wanted to check out Disneyworld in Orlando.

Knowing we lived in Florida, he suggested they might stop and spend the night with us. Apparently they have an extended family but also the resources to rent two Mercedes for the overland trip to Los Angeles.

Since it was my cousin who asked, I said sure.

“When should we expect them?” I said.

He replied “Probably tomorrow.”
