My First July 4th

I first arrived in the US in 1950, arriving in New York on June 27th, aboard the RMS Coronia. I know this since I Googled my mothers’ name and up popped the passenger manifest from Cunard White Star lines with our names on it! We travelled from New York to Chicago on the Twentieth Century Limited and then on to Peoria on the Illinois Central.

My first exposure to a July 4th event was that first week. I recall travelling to property in the countryside, perhaps a farm owned by a colleague of my father. I remember firecrackers and food. Here are some pictures, two with me and then one with my mother and unknown women.

Enjoy your weekend!
